Central Florida schools and television stations WRDQ-27 and WTVT-9 joined forces to launch a six-county media campaign of Be There January 11 at the Citrus Club in downtown Orlando.

Superintendents from five of the six participating districts were on hand to talk about the importance ofparental involvement to children’s success in school and in life. They were joined by several parents and students who shared their personal stories on how “being there” paid off in positive ways. WRDQ-27 served as host and media partner for the event.

Participating superintendents included: Dr. Brian Binggeli, Brevard County Public Schools; Dr. Ronald Blocker, Orange County Public Schools; Dr. Michael Grego, Osceola County Public Schools; Bill Delbrugge,Flagler County Public Schools and Dr. Margaret Smith, Volusia County Public Schools. Jim Yancey, Marion County Public Schools, could not attend but the district has already launched the campaign. Volusia County served as the national pilot site for Be There during the 2007-2008 school year and the campaign has since expanded into 18 states and Canada.
